OUTREACH COMMITTEE REPORT FOR MAY 2006

(:: | ::)

Mission: To support Christ’s mission in the local, state and national communities.
Matthew 25: 35 “…for I was hungry and you gave me food, was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
40 “…Truly I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.”

The ECHO Foodshelf project for the month of March was a HUGE success! Under the leadership of Betty Winkworth and with the fantastic support of the parish, (not to mention the cheerleading of one fuzzy priest) we gathered $3320 dollars in cash and 325.5 pounds of food. We are humbled by this generosity…

Food For Friends served 80 people on March 25. Ray and Audrey Splinter have chaired this event for the past two times and are looking for a couple of other folks to assume leadership. Anyone interested should call Phyllis Brine. Many thanks to the great work done by Ray & Audrey… and the many parish members who contributed food, cash and their time.

Beth Davis brought information about the Rose Sale for the Arc. The Outreach Committee voted to write a check for $50 for the work of Arc in the Mankato area.

We’re getting a few shoeboxes brought in to church. We will keep advertising for them.

The Habitat for Humanity building beam will be in the narthex during the week following Easter Sunday.

The next meeting will be on May 4 at 6:30 in the vestry room. Any member of St. John’s is invited to join us. If you can’t come and know of a need, please contact Phyllis Brine.

SHOEBOXES NEEDED!!!

We will be participating in the Samaritan’s Purse Project this Fall and we are in need of shoeboxes. They should be the ‘regular’ size; children’s would be too small and boot boxes would be too large. Bring them to church during May & June; we’ll tell you more about the Samaritan’s Purse project at a later time.

ECHO FOODSHELF

ECHO is in need of some nonfood items for their clients. Toothbrushes and toothpaste are used. They also like body lotion, deodorant, shampoo, shaving supplies and powdered laundry soap. They do NOT need toilet paper or bar soap. Thank you for your help!
