A MILLION TREES

(:: ::)

Imagine… Perhaps youve heard of the Million Trees project. If not, imagine driving by an ugly spot in our town or along a nearby highway and watching it change year-by-year with the growth of trees you and your friends have planted. That‘s the emotional and esthetic part of it. The ecological part of it is equally compelling. You‘ve selected trees that are particularly efficient at removing and storing in the ground carbon dioxide emissions. You‘ve helped remove green-house gases from the atmosphere that contribute to global warming. You‘ve provided a wildlife habitat, noise abatement, fuel savings (no mowing required) and enabled soil stabilization. The good news is that it will be happening here in the Mankato area and we can be a part of it. How? We‘ve been invited to form a team of 10-15 planters (men, women and children) who will spend 2-3 hours together this April planting an area selected by the City of Mankato. (One possible spot is the slope of land near the intersection of Highways 169 and 14). Under the guidance of a master gardener we would plant seedlings that are 8-10 inches tall and douse them with water. The local groups that have been working on this project have al-ready raised $2,000 to purchase 4,000 trees and we would hope to add some money to the cause to purchase more. Interested?–we need to form a team soon so check out the display and sign up on the clipboard in the Parish Hall. Any questions? Ask Alex Taylor or one of your Green Team members—Jerry W., Jerry S., Mike K., Jolly, Ginny, Helen or Betty.
