ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH VESTRY MINUTES

(:: ::)

Members present: Fr. Paul, Jerry Wegman, Mike Kolbinger, Mike Davis, Jerry Stump, Gerry Schneck, Ann Taylor-Sundstrom, Nickie VanStelten, Beth Davis and Bill Gray. Fr. Paul opened the meeting with the Gathering Prayer and a reading.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mike Davis and approved as read (VanStelten/Schneck).

Beth Davis gave us a synopsis of her work with the bookkeeping, including the new software. She and Bill are gradually working with the system and learning the software. Bill is still using the QuickBooks as a backup. Our free support service will come to an end on June 29th…Fr. Paul and Beth will decide if we need to pay to continue the support ($66.50/month) or if there is someone in the Diocese who can help us for a nominal fee. Bill Gray presented the monthly financial statement. Items of interest: We terminated PayChecks at the end of January and our payroll is now being handled in house; Fr. Paul’s salary was corrected for a check issued in December that should have been dated in January; Mary (organist) has not been notified of the raise in pay that the Vestry approved in the 2007 Budget…the Personnel Committee will contact her and arrange for the retroactive amount to be paid to her; St. John’s will receive a bequest from the estate of Evelyn Wirig in the amount of $10,000 sometime in August; the balance in the Pooled Fund Account at the Dioceses was $175,597.55 as of May 31 (includes 1st and 2nd quarter withdrawals, the transfer of the Lander money for the purchase of new altar linens, but not the 2nd quarter management fee); the checking account balance as of may 31 was $38,829.26; the interest earning account has accumulated $169.03 so far this year.
The financial report was approved as presented (Stump/Wegman).

Committee Reports: Finance Committee: met May 23 to work on setting up official policies for a) the reception of gifts and b) the terms of membership. The final rendition of these policies will be presented to the Vestry for approval at a future meeting. It was moved and approved that Bill Gray remain a member (ex-officio) and consultant at the present time (Schneck/Taylor-Sundstrom).

Junior Warden: The AC unit on roof had a Freon leak and we receive a bill for the repair (approx. $500). The church clean-up had a fairly poor turn out, so another day will probably be scheduled later to finish the work. The wood fence along the east end of the parking lot is gradually coming down and we will not replace it unless the new property owner requests it. A new method of receiving and storing rummage for the semi-annual sales will be investigated…pests have been a problem. Fr. Paul and Mike Kolbinger will meet and discuss replacing or refurbishing the sign on the corner of Broad and Warren.

Work of the Church: Summer schedule has been well received. The bus has been scheduled to go the Winnie Mitchell’s Ordination on Thursday, June 14. The Men’s Group Fish Fry is scheduled for Friday, June 29 (5-7pm) and ticket sales are going well. There is still room on the Twins bus (July 13..$23/person). Mass in the Grass is scheduled for July 8 at Sibley Park followed by a pot luck picnic. There is a Regional Meeting in Faribault on July 14..all are invited.
Jerry Wegman is working on our Viking Tailgate Party…more details next month. The Men’s Group has put together a list of chores and repair work to be done in and around the church building…looking to prioritize and find some volunteers.

New Business: It was moved and approved to donate an old brass cross of undetermined origin to the Summit Center for their Chapel (Stump/Taylor-Sundstrom). Our July meeting will be for fellowship only at the Wegman’s…July 24…Jerry will email us later with details. The Parish Rally Sunday will be September 9th.

Meeting was adjourned.

Respectively submitted, Nickie VanStelten
