OUTREACH COMMITTEE REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 2006

(:: | ::)

St. John’s Outreach Committee met on Thursday, September 7th. Members present were Bobbi Hovren, Ginny McNear, Bobbi Seberson, Ann Taylor-Sundstrom and Phyllis Brine.

Our last report in the Chronicle incorrectly stated that we had given $250 to the Salvation Army for the Children’s Summer Lunch Program. The correct amount should have been $150.

We have been unable to connect with the Montgomery Seasonal Ministry this year to find a date at which we could help, however, we will ask them to let us know next year what their plans are and we will try again. As previously reported, we did donate $250 toward their expenses.

The parish donation for Food for ECHO in August was up. Donations totaled 146 pounds. Good job!

We thank all of you that helped with the school supplies for Episcopal Community Services. The donations were generous and very appreciated.

We are donating $100 to the Freedom School in Mankato, formerly called the Sober School. This is a valuable educational and transitional resource for young people in recovery.

After discussion we voted to send $100 to the Mankato Chapter of the Red Cross for help to the persons who were in the tornados in Nicollet and Le Sueur counties.

Food for Friends will be served by St. John’s on Saturday, October 14th. Ray and Audrey Splinter will again be in charge. We will have a sign-up sheet for food and workers. Please help if you can.

The Heifer Project which gives animals to African communities has received a donation of one million dollars with a matching fund stipulation to provide camels to 32,000 nomadic communities. We voted to donate $300 to this project.

We are very sorry to have Nancy Zwickey resign from our committee. She has been a wonderful and dedicated member. Nancy has accepted another volunteer position at St. Johns’s. We wish her the very best and thank her for her years of service on the Outreach Committee.

The next meeting will be October 5th, at 6:30 p.m. in the vestry room. Anyone interested in Outreach is always welcome to join us.

Respectfully submitted,
Phyllis Brine
