PAUL'S PONDERINGS FOR NOVEMBER 2007

St. BARNABAS OUTREACH

St. Barnabas was knows as the “encourager” or “son of consolation”. In that same spirit some in our congregation have decided to write and send anonymous letters of encouragement to those in our community. The cards will be signed “St. Barnabas”. The group is completely anonymous. If you would enjoy writing and sending cards to those who may need a little boost please contact our rector, Paul Rider.

WANTER LIST FOR NOVEMBER 2007

Someone who enjoys and has experience in data processing to learn our Church Management Software program and to keep our membership lists up-to-date. Volunteers to serve and assist at the Community Thanksgiving Dinner at First Presbyterian Church. A clerk for the Vestry who will be responsible for taking notes during meetings and disseminating them afterwards. Voices for our adult choir. Adult and youth acolytes. Part-time (Sundays only) Choir Director

Major Actions Taken– Approved and signed recommendation of ordination to the priesthood of Winnie Mitchell Approved a motion to reject the purchase of terrorism insurance Approved the order and purchase of stewardship materials Approved a motion to pursue a Sunday only Choir Director upon the resignation of our current Director, Erin Damberger

OUTREACH REPORT --NOVEMBER

Mission: To support Christ’s mission in the local, state, and national communities.

Matthew 25:35…”for I was hungry and you gave me food, was thisty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.”

:40…”truly I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.”

St. John’s Outreach Committee met on October 4. The meeting was opened with a reading and prayer.

FROM THE GREEN TEAM NETWORK

Centenary Methodist Church has a valuable event coming up that we have all been invited to attend. On Monday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Centenary will address the topic of Nuclear Energy with a very knowledgeable and distinguished speaker, Dr. Genevieve S. Roessler. Her specialty is Health Physics and she will be giving an update on nuclear energy and its future use as a major energy source.

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER

A meeting was held on October 9th for the purpose of beginning to plan for the third annual Thanksgiving Dinner. As in previous years, it will be co-sponsored by St. John the Evangelist Episcopal and First Presbyterian churches. The meal will be served in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian on Thursday, November 22nd, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed for the following times and duties: Wednesday, November 21st, 10:00 a.m. – set up Thursday, November 22nd – 10:30-11:30 a.m. – greeters, servers, table clearers

SENIOR WARDEN REPORT: NOVEMBER

On Saturday morning October 13th the men’s group voted to give the Green Team $200.00 for the purchase of the small freezer. Sure hope each of you can help in some way for our new refrigerator. Starting in November is our annual stewardship program. We all need to Plan for Today and Plan for the Future of St John’s. A constant in the life of the church is the need to be financially stable and able to plan for the future of the congregation’s ministry.

Thank you all for your support of the St. Julian’s Guild apple pie sale.
